Whether it's a missing o-ring, wetsuit tear or a broken fin strap, the Gear Maintenance Course teaches you to manage basic repairs and adjustments. You'll also learn more about how your gear works, making you more comfortable with it and better prepared to take care of your investment.
Course Outline
You will have a lecture with your instructor in which you will cover the following:
- Routine care and maintenance procedures as well as scuba equipment storage recommendations.
- How to overcome some common equipment problems and offer equipment configuration suggestions.
- Be prepared and manage minor inconveniences whilst setting up your dive gear.
- Basic fundamentals of how diving gear works.
- You may even get to jump into the water to try new or unfamiliar equipment.
Equipment
Your Phoenix Instructor may ask you to bring your basic scuba equipment to class, but will also have examples of other dive gear for you to work with during training.
Getting Started
As soon as you sign up (added the course to your cart and payment cleared) with Phoenix Divers to do your Gear Maintenance Course, you will receive an email with the learning information you need.
It will also be handy to get The Encyclopedia of Recreational Diving to use as a reference during the course.
Your Phoenix Divers Instructor will then contact you about scheduling time for practical training.

- Normally over weekends but possible for during the week training
